Who we are
Orrie is a Chrome extension and this website, tryorrie.app. In this policy, "Orrie", "we" and "us" mean the people who make Orrie. You can reach us at our contact address.
What stays on your device
Orrie saves the following in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.local). It isn't sent to us.
- Settings, such as your theme, model tier, actions, custom instructions and the sites where you've turned Orrie off.
- Your API keys, if you add any.
- Chat history: your messages and Orrie's answers, any images or files you attached, and the title and address of the page each chat started on.
You're in control of history. In Settings you can turn it off, have chats deleted automatically after a number of days, delete single chats, or delete everything. Uninstalling Orrie removes all of it.
What Orrie reads on web pages
Orrie runs on the pages you visit so it can show the dot when you highlight text or click into a text box. It watches for those moments on your device, but it doesn't read or send page content until you open Orrie and send a message.
What Orrie sends, and when
Nothing leaves your device until you send a message or tap an action. When you do, the request can include:
- Your message, or the action you chose (like Improve writing)
- The text you highlighted, or the contents of the text box you're in
- The page's title and site name, when page context is on
- The page's visible text, up to 30,000 characters, for actions that need it, such as Summarise this page, Draft a reply and Write for me, when page context is on
- Files and images you attach
- For circle anything: a screenshot of the area you circled, plus the text inside that area. Orrie captures the visible tab once to cut out your selection, and only the selected area is sent.
- Earlier messages in the same chat, so Orrie can follow the conversation
- Your custom instructions and writing preferences
You can turn page context off in Settings.
Who receives it
Using free messages
Your request goes to Orrie's server at orrie.haydenkong.com, which passes it to OpenAI to generate the answer and streams the answer back. Our server doesn't store the content of your messages or Orrie's answers. To enforce daily limits and prevent abuse, it keeps a random install ID that isn't linked to your name or email, a count of messages per day, a one-way hash of your IP address (the hash changes every day, and it's only used to limit free messages and new installs per network), and short-lived technical logs such as timestamps and error codes. The counts and hashes are deleted after two days.
Using your own API key
Your request goes straight from your browser to the provider you picked, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, OpenRouter or a model running on your own computer. It never passes through Orrie's servers, and that provider's own privacy policy applies. When you press Test or Load models in Settings, Orrie asks that provider for its list of models using your key.
OpenAI
OpenAI processes requests under its privacy policy and API data controls. Orrie asks OpenAI not to store responses (store: false). OpenAI says it doesn't use API data to train its models by default, and it may keep API data for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse.
What we don't do
- We don't sell, rent or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
- We don't use your data for advertising, credit decisions or anything unrelated to answering you.
- We don't build a memory or profile of you. Each chat stands on its own.
- The extension has no analytics or tracking scripts.
Chrome Web Store User Data Policy
Orrie's use of information received through Chrome adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Data is only used to provide the features you ask for.
Permissions, explained
- Access to websites: to show the dot and the chat on the pages you visit, and to capture the visible tab when you use circle anything.
- Storage and unlimited storage: to keep your settings and chat history, including images, on your device.
- Access to orrie.haydenkong.com: to send free messages through Orrie's server. Requests to your own provider use the access to websites above.
This website
tryorrie.app doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses and request times, to run and secure the site.
Children
Orrie isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Your rights
Because your history and settings are stored on your device, you can view, export or delete them yourself at any time. If you have a question about data our server may hold, such as your daily message count, contact us and we'll help. Depending on where you live, including under the Australian Privacy Principles or the GDPR, you may have extra rights to access or delete your information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what Orrie sends or who receives it, we'll say so in the extension's release notes.
